Downspout collection systems direct rainwater towards ground water retention basins, or if a retention basin is not required a cistern can be installed to reuse the water for nonpotable uses such as landscaping.

Where onsite contours allow for it, foundation drains can eliminate the need for an electric sump pump, which can give peace of mind during a storm or electric outage.
